AIVU stands for Apple Immersive Video Universal — it is Apple's native file format for stereoscopic immersive video, designed specifically for Apple Vision Pro. AIVU files contain the full stereoscopic 8K video, spatial audio, and lens calibration metadata required for true immersive playback.
To play an AIVU file:
You can also preview AIVU files in 2D on your Mac without an Apple Vision Pro by selecting the file and pressing the Space bar (Quick Look).
Both files contain the same footage — the difference is in format and intended playback device.
The AIVU file is authored specifically for Apple Vision Pro and plays natively through Apple Immersive Video Utility. It delivers the full stereoscopic HDR 180° 3D 8K experience the content was designed for.
The MOV file is a universal VR format (HDR · 180° · 3D · 5K) compatible with Meta Quest, Pico, Samsung Galaxy XR, ByteDance, PC-Tethered VR Headsets, and Playstation VR. It delivers the same immersive 180° experience on all non-Apple headsets. The MOV can also be played on Apple Vision Pro using Skybox or Moon Player apps.
We provide both formats with every release so you can watch on whatever device you have.
Yes, but the experience will not be immersive. Without a headset, the 180° footage will appear as a wide fisheye or stretched image on a flat screen — this is normal for immersive video formats and does not indicate a problem with the file. The content is designed and optimized for VR headset viewing. For the experience BARE Immersive content is intended for, an Apple Vision Pro or compatible VR headset is strongly recommended.
Our content is delivered in two formats to maximize compatibility:
If you have a specific headset or playback app with particular format requirements, contact us and we can discuss delivering in a format optimized for your setup.

Yes. BARE Immersive offers a free preview section in the Downloads Vault — no subscription or login required. These short clips give you a genuine taste of the immersive experience before you commit to a subscription.
Yes, but it will not appear immersive on a flat screen. The footage will look like a wide-angle or fisheye video. This is normal for 180° immersive content and does not affect the file quality. Flat screen viewing is fine for quick review but the content is designed exclusively for VR headset playback.
